With the potential exclusion of weather, color has the prevalent influence on the human state of mind. The colors are here to influence mood and behavior of the people using these spaces. The careful selection of color scheme not only makes your room look bigger but the ambiance cozy, cheerful to unwind yourself in home atmosphere.

There are two types of colors in interior perspective – advancing and receding. If you put two articles together painted in these two different colors then the article in advancing color will appear closer than the one with receding color. Yellow, orange, red are examples of advancing colors whereas Black, green, blue are the examples of receding colors.

To make small room spacious, use light cool colors for wall and furniture. On the contrary, use of warm colors like purple, red helps in apparently reducing the size of bigger spaces. If you have a narrow room, paint them with warm colors. Even try a pattern on them and they will appear closer! You can change the appearance of your square room into a long narrow room by just painting the two opposite sides with a darker color and remaining two with lighter one.

While deciding the color scheme, use and function of the room remains key factor. Placement of rooms also plays a vital role. For a cold room facing north, use of yellow and red enhances its beauty, while the rooms exposed to more sunlight throughout the day should be dealt with subdued, dark colors.

It is worth investing in a color wheel to check out how your chosen color scheme fits before splashing out on several gallons lime green and violet for your living room. Likewise, red-orange and turquoise also offer complementary combination. For small rooms, try calming tone-on-tone techniques, patterns. Pale greens, icy blue, cream and white are just few combinations that can open up a small room.

Interior painting revolves around illusion. If you are successful in creating illusion, you have achieved the desired results. After all, you are aiming for subdued, relaxing environment in the midst of chaotic atmosphere present outside.
